Craig Clifford Johnston

Obituary

Clifford “Craig” Johnston was born February 26th, 1935, at the Royal Columbia Hospital in New Westminster. Passed away April 15th, 2023, in Penticton with his eldest daughter Debbie by his side.

Craig was predeceased by his parents Mick and Phyllis Johnston, son Scott, brother David and sister-in-law Gail.

Craig is survived by wife Shirley of 66 years, daughters Debbie  (Warren), Sharon (George) and daughter-in-law Theresa; 11 Grandchildren Krystina, Teri-Lyn, Amanda, Corissa, Stephanie, Adrianne, Kendra, Lysandra, Ken, Rebecca, Caitlyn; 11 Great Grandchildren, Shanelle, Austin, Kaiden, Mackenzie, Savannah, Kiera, Maysen, Aella, Ryleigh, Kimberly, Jason. Craig is survived by his brother Michael (Penny) and nephews Christopher, Gregory, Kelly, and niece Tara and their families.

Craig began his work career with the ministry of Forest suppression crew which led him into the engineering dept of the forest service, Surveying and constructing of the many forest service roads and bridges throughout the province. From there his career took him to the construction of pulp mills in Prince George and Kitimat and this led to overseas opportunities.

Returning to BC he started his own trucking company, Kettle Valley Services, expanding the company and adding two bottle recycling depots. Following that he managed the Tamarak and Ptarmigan Inns at Big White during the ski season. Craig moved to Prince George to manage a motel and finally retired to Blind Bay on Shuswap Lake. Here Craig and Shirley hosted many families’ gatherings for over 20 years.

In 2017 Craig moved to Penticton to be closer to family.

Shirley and family, We were sorry to hear of Craig’s passing. Our 2 families attended the same high school and with the 3 brothers and we 3 girls the same age so we often were in the same classes. I remember Craig as a happy friendly person. We last visitied Craig and Shirley at their home in Blind Bay.
