Douglas Stanley Gibson
May 1, 1930 - August 22, 2022
Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we relay the news that my husband Douglas Stanley Gibson left us on August 22nd. He was born May 1st 1930. He did not leave quietly; that was not his style. If you heard the thunder and seen the lightening, Monday evening you can be sure that was when he was making his exit. He is survived by his wife Louise of 57+years, daughters Dianne & Cynthia, sons Brian & Gary. Louise, Dianne and Gary were holding his hand when he left them. Louise came from a large family who were very close to Doug and Louise. Marnie and Garrett Tanner, of Kelowna, Lorrie Hogg from San Guodo, Larry and Sharon from Red Deer, grand children, great grand children and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.
Doug was a long time member of FORUM (Federation of Retired Union Members) in which he represented the North Okanagan Labour Council for the last 20 years. He was a mentor to young and old alike and an advocate for any that requested help. He was a proud Honourary Life Time Member of the New Democratic Party. His belief in social justice and fairness for all working people never varied. Anyone that knew him was aware of his dedication and we will all remember his many stories over the years.
Personally our family would like to thank the ICU staff at Kelowna General Hospital,. We were all hoping for a miracle. Our family is the greatest asset and we have been through it all together. Our friends, neighbours, those in the community that have offered hugs, love and done whatever they could whenever they could; thank-you so very much. Rest in peace my love until I join you down the road and we can organize another union shop together.

Louise, I was so saddened to learn that Doug had passed away. I recall those early years of labour activism within the OTEU – Local 15 when Doug was Bus. Rep. and you and I were on the Executive Board. So many years ago! His dedication to the movement never waned. I hope all your happy memories will bring you comfort at this time of loss.
