Obituary
George Loveseth
Aged 87
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of George Loveseth who passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday February 19th. While his physical health had been in decline, he maintained his unfailing good nature, infinite wisdom and love for his family and many friends. He will be fondly remembered by his longtime companion Caroline, daughters Cheryl and Margot (Shane), his grandsons Kyle and Mars, along with his cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, fellow travelers, schoolmates and colleagues.
George lived a long and interesting life. Born on the prairies and raised in BC, he spent his working years in Calgary, where he raised his daughters to be strong, independent and kind. After his daughters, he was most proud of putting himself through UBC and then leading a successful career as a geological engineer. This success allowed him to retire at 55 and move to Oliver BC, where he practiced amateur astronomy, knitted toques for charity, puttered in the garden, and chased the deer away (unsuccessfully).
With Caroline, he embarked on many adventures while ticking off his bucket list – cruising the Danube and the Irrawaddy, visiting Macchu Pichu, riding camels in Egypt and elephants in Thailand, observing the penguins and visiting Shackleton’s grave on the remote South Georgia island. In his annual Christmas letters, he was thrilled to share his adventures with his loved ones – he had been to every continent, numerous countries and, on his last big adventure at the age of 84, he circumnavigated the globe. A life well lived.
As per his wishes, there will not be a service. George will be interred with his mother at Mountain View Cemetery in Duncan, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the team at Moog & Friends Hospice House in Penticton or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
