Gordon John Ferebee

November 26, 1931 - September 4, 2022

Obituary

Gordon John Ferebee of Penticton, beloved husband of Ellen Betty Ferebee, passed away peacefully on September 4th, 2022 at the age of 90 years.

Born in Britain, November 26, 1931 Gordon and his family had a challenging childhood, being evacuated several times during the London bombings of World War II.  That influenced his decision to join the Royal Airforce at age 18 where he served from 1949-53.  Two of those years were stationed at a base in Gibraltar, a time he also spoke of fondly.

Gordon met the love of his life, Ellen (Betty) in 1948 and they were married September 25, 1954. Their life of adventure began in 1956 when they packed up and boarded a ship to Canada, first settling in Ontario.  Gordon held a few jobs before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in January of 1958.  He served 18 years in the RCAF, moving to BC in 1974 to serve at the base in Chilliwack BC until it closed.  Gordon then began a 13-year career working for the Federal Penitentiary in Mission BC from the time it opened until his retirement in 1989.

Gordon and Betty had a summer trailer on Kootenay Lake from 1990-2010 and moved from Mission to Penticton in 2012.  They also loved to travel around the world. Gordon was a lover of sports… excelling at many including cricket, soccer, golf, tennis, darts, cycling and table tennis which he continued to play until his passing.

He was a collector of stamps, loved his garden (particularly his black berries and tomatoes which he shared with neighbours), he also enjoyed making (and consuming) his wine. Besides his loving wife Betty, Gordon is survived by his daughter Lynda Walta of Chilliwack, son Jonathan Ferebee of Penticton (wife Natalie). Grandchildren; Angela Ferebee of Kelowna (spouse John Karpol), Adrian Ferebee of Penticton (wife Ashley), Trevor Bonner of Edmonton, Laura Bonner of Saskatoon, Maria Koch of Saskatoon, Chistopher Walta of Chilliwack and Cameron Koch of Chilliwack. Great Grandchildren Miles Karpol-Ferebee of Kelowna, Adelyn Bonner of Saskatoon. Sisters Edith Frankum in Britain. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Gordon was pre-deceased by sisters, Edna (Sarnia,Ontario) and Winnie and Brother Ted (both of Britain and son-In Law – Gary Walta (Chilliwack). Celebration of Life to be held at a future date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made the charity of the donor’s choice.
