Obituary
James Stuart Payne
July 13, 1956 – January 16, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Stuart Payne at the age of 68. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, James lived in several cities, including Germany, due to his father’s military service before settling back in Winnipeg. A talented athlete, James excelled in shot put during high school. He later earned a Geology degree from the University of Manitoba, leading to a career in mining. His work with Rodren Drilling contributed to a gold mine discovery, and his tenure at the Manitoba Government helped modernize mine claims. An avid outdoorsman, James loved camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, photography, and collecting minerals. In retirement, he and his wife, Rosalee, moved to Penticton, BC, to embrace nature’s beauty. James is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rosalee; his son, Andrew (Taeyo); and his brother, Gordon. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Margaret, his in-laws, Bill and Olga, and his sister Valerie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’ memory to Canadian Cancer Society.
