Obituary

KENNETH DALE GRANTHAM

1944 – 2021

"Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew

When I bit off more than I could chew

But through it all, when there was doubt

I ate it up and spit it out

I faced it all and I stood tall

and did it my way"     (Anka/Sinatra)

With grace and dignity, our beloved Ken passed away peacefully with family at his side on Tuesday March 2, 2021 at Moog & Friends Hospice in Penticton, B.C. Left to mourn are his wife of 42 years Faye, daughters Tracey (Alastair) of Mazatlan, Mexico, Lindsay (Kristopher) of Kelowna, B.C. and precious grand-daughters Victoria Faye and Karissa Davie. Ken also leaves 3 brothers Don (Joyce) of Prince George, B.C., Terry (Bev) of Calgary, Alta and Doug (Darlene) of Stonewall Manitoba.  Two brothers-in-law Ray (Janet) of Cranbrook, B.C. and Bill (Mary-Jane) of Summerland, B.C.  Many nieces and nephews will always remember Uncle Ken. Ken was predeceased by his parents Garland and Adeline Grantham of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Tracey's mother Marguerite of Mazatlan. Ken was born in Gladstone, Manitoba and started his career as an Independent Insurance Adjuster in Winnipeg in the mid 1960's.   He eventually made his way to Vancouver in the early 1970's and retired in 2004 after owning and operating a successful insurance adjusting business.  After retirement he and Faye decided on retirement in Penticton beside beautiful Lake Okanagan. Ken's main focus in life was always his family and career but found time to squeeze in a round of golf with colleagues, skiing and other activities with family and friends and many wonderful vacations to Hawaii, Mexico, the UK, the Far East and countless trips throughout Canada the USA and beyond. Ken was a great shopper and had a keen eye for good art, antiques or just about anything that was interesting and unique – just as he was.  He was quiet yet strong, wise and generous and the best story teller ever.  He was a terrific mentor and life skills teacher to both his daughters and instilled his motto in them 'if you are going to do it, do it well'.

HE WILL BE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Kelowna General Hospital, Penticton Regional Hospital and Moog & Friends Hospice for all their kindness and care. Given the current pandemic there will be no service rather hopefully a family celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers you may wish to make a donation to the charity of your choice or to Moog & Friends Hospice in Penticton, B.C.

Ken’s Winnipeg family is sadden by his passing.  Ken was a generous, caring and compassionate man.  When Doug and I were on our honeymoon our car broke down and it needed a new engine.  We were stuck in B.C and did not have the money to get the car repaired.  Doug phoned his older brother Ken and without a moment hesitation he wired the money so we could get the car fixed.  We later learned he did not have the money to do this but rather had taken out a loan.
We always enjoyed our visits with Ken, Faye and their beautiful family because it always meant a lot of laughs. We loved him very much.
