Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Pauline Downing with family at her side on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at the age of 84 in West Kelowna, B.C. She was born in the seaside town of Folkestone, Kent, UK on January 20, 1936. With compassion and selflessness, Pauline dedicated her lifetime to aiding others, working as a caregiver in Hamilton, Ontario, for seniors and others with limited mobility. She was a sparkling woman with quick wit and an uncanny sense of humour who could make even the most stern of souls crack a smile. Pauline’s true english charm was embodied in every fibre of her being, from sipping hot tea in all seasons to always keeping an assortment of biscuits and other sweets on hand for her grandchildren. Pauline is now reunited in death with both of her parents, Emily (Putland) & William Thomas Downing, as well as her siblings, Doris, Winnie, Ernie, Jacques, Joan and William. She will be greatly missed by her older sister, Hazel, two daughters, Angela, Elizabeth and her grandchildren, Christopher, Jessica, Mitchell and Alexa. A special thank you to the staff at Smith Creek Village of Baptist Housing Seniors Living for their compassionate care during an unprecedented time. Due to gathering restrictions (COVID-19), we will be postponing the celebration of Pauline’s life to a later date. As per her wishes cremation has taken place along with a private family gathering.
