Obituary

In Memory of Our Beloved Father
Peter Donald Stewart (January 22, 1937 – December 9, 2024)

Peter was born In Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn Dolores Stewart (Pratte) on August 13, 2024. Peter and Marilyn were childhood sweethearts in the Kootenays, and were married 67 years ago in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on September 7, 1957.

Peter provided for his growing family of six children, April Dawn, Tracy Marie, Peter Kevin, Jody Rae, Wanda Jane and Bradley Donald. This was followed by 15 grandchildren, 16 great grand children, and 1 great-great grandchild. The family was devastated by the loss of his oldest son and our brother, 3 days before Peter’s passing.

Peter started his mining career in Riondel, BC at the Bluebell Mine. In 1972, he moved to Kimberley, BC. Peter worked at the Sullivan Mine for 21 years as a hard rock miner. Peter retired in 1993 and moved to Kitchener, BC where he enjoyed antiquing. Peter and Marilyn then moved to the Okanagan to look after Marilyn’s mother Alice, and he still enjoyed antiquing!

Peter lived a wonderful life doing the things he loved. Music was fundamental to his soul. Peter woke up whistling and spent many nights serenading us with his harmonica and guitar. Marilyn always accompanied him.

One of Peter’s favorite memories was fishing on Kootenay Lake and listening to Patsy Cline. Peter also enjoyed many different sports: horseshoes, bowling, softball, badminton, and not to mention competitive bush golfing during the camping years. Peter enjoyed camping trips with his Kimberley friends and relatives.

People were often surprised by his quick wit and keen memory for idioms. Peter loved trading newspaper crosswords back and forth with Marilyn. He also enjoyed gambling and was lucky to win a few jackpots. Peter taught his family to live life to the fullest and to treat others as you would have them do to you. When challenges to his health arose, Peter showed us courage and resilience.

The family believes his strong spirit will guide us and protect us always.
Dad, we want you to go find Mom, tiptoe through toolies with her and have a beer with Kevin.

Love always,
Your Sputniks
