Shieran Thomas Cobb

December 22, 1994 - January 8, 2021

Obituary

Shieran came into the world kicking and screaming on a cold Dawson Creek December morning in 1994. The second of three children, he was always affectionately, the middle child. He is survived by both parents, Chantal Cobb and Shawn Dennis, and both siblings, Shaedon Cobb and Chalan Cobb. He leaves behind three loving grandparents, and many family members that he cherished.  Just before he was to start kindergarten his family moved to Winnipeg. It was in Winnipeg where he went to school, and where he met his life long love Alyssa Gobeil. When he was sixteen his family made the move back to British Columbia, the place Shieran had always called his home. Despite the distance, Shieran and Alyssa continued their relationship. Speaking every night on the phone until Alyssa was able to join him almost three years later. Over time, Shieran and Alyssa amassed a small family; two cats, Biscotti and Kiki, a great dane, Deacon, and a bearded dragon, Darius. Shieran lovingly referred to them as his babies.

Shieran was a passionate person who enjoyed many hobbies in his lifetime. He loved the outdoors, mountain biking, skiing, hiking, swimming in a warm lake, and drinking a cold beer. Shieran was incredibly smart, and he had a natural talent for understanding the world in a unique way. Shieran had a kind heart and a distinct way of showing it, although when he did, it changed people’s lives. He leaves behind many faithful friends that he always considered family. Shieran had been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia for two and a half years. He had undergone countless rounds of chemo, bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, radiation, immunotherapy, and even a successful bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, the cancer returned a final time. Shieran fought long and hard, but he prepared, and always knew the right time. He told us this must be his time. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family at Vancouver General Hospital in the early morning hours of January 8, 2021.  Shieran wanted everyone to please consider the impact of donating blood, and registering in the stem cell registry. The selflessness of a stem cell donor gave him 10 extra months. The kindness of blood donors allowed him time to say goodbye, celebrate one more birthday, have a final christmas, and new years.

I was one who was changed forever by Shieren’s love. Thank you to the family for letting me share in your journey the past 17 years. To know Shieren, was to love him.
