Obituary
Shirley Anne Morgan of Penticton, BC, beloved wife of the late Roland Philip Morgan, passed away on March 3, 2023 at the age of 87 years.
Shirley was born in Penticton on January 16, 1936, the youngest of four children. Upon completion of grade 11 she did secretarial training then worked for a year at the Penticton Western Advertiser. She met Phil while square dancing and they were married on September 18, 1956. They were married for 65 years and were blessed with six children.
She loved square dancing, silversmithing, jewellery making, rock hounding, and sewing. She would make new outfits for her children at Easter, when they were young, and for other special occasions, along with the regular sewing for all family members. She was well known for her bread making and cookie baking.
For several years she was President of the BC Square Dance Jamboree and chaired the local Geology and Lapidary Club.
Shirley is survived by her six children: Maureen (Darren) Lockhart; Glenda (Andy) Patterson; Brett (Janet) Morgan; Paulette (Larry) Hiebert; Pauline (Lyle) O’Connor; and Brian (Tina) Morgan. She is also survived by her only sister Betty (Jack) Lawson and sisters-in-law Marlene Williams and Gloria Williams.
Shirley was blessed with 14 grandchildren: Miriam, Christopher (Hannah), Catherine, Anne (Bob), Raeanne (Matthew), Ashleigh, Bryan, Kristina, Melinda (Darcy), Mathison, Mark (Tiffany), Grant, David, Michael, and 15 great grandchildren Nathanael, Naomi, Tabitha, Joanna, Thaddaeus, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Theodore, Brodyn, Hudson, Marie, Eian, Alex, Logan, Westynn, and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
Besides her husband Phil (deceased May 6, 2022), Shirley was predeceased by her parents Warren & Ruby Williams, and her two brothers Scott Williams and Don Williams.
A memorial service will take place on May 20, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Penticton First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be gratefully accepted for the Penticton Regional Hospital Foundation-Oncology Renovation Project or Maple Springs Bible Camp.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Richard Tatham for his exceptional care and compassion over the last 20 plus years. We would also like to thank Dr. Donella Anderson, Dr. K. Khoo, as well as the many doctors, nurses, and support staff at the Penticton Regional Hospital who cared for Shirley for the many years that followed her diagnosis of cancer in 1999.
