Obituary

The family of Teresa Slobodin (Terry) is deeply saddened to announce her passing on January 20, 2024 at the age of 85 in Penticton, BC.  Terry was a resident of Vernon BC for 42 years before relocating to Penticton in 2020 to be closer to family.

Born in Red Deer to Jacob and Mary Roth, Terry moved with her family to Salmon Arm in the 1940’s.  She attended Balmoral School which is now a part of historic O’Keefe Ranch.  In 1961, she married Stan, an RCMP officer, and soon welcomed two daughters into the family. They were stationed in various locations, including Vernon, Chilliwack, Lytton, Nelson, and upon Stan’s retirement, they returned to Vernon.  Terry and Stan owned and operated Sheffield & Sons in the Village Green Mall for 10 years.

Terry was not only a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and grandmother but also a terrific friend and thoughtful neighbour. An excellent cook, baker, top-notch seamstress, dedicated gardener, and amazing singer, her enthusiasm, kindness, and sense of humour spread happiness and light wherever she went. She was fortunate to travel to over 30 countries worldwide, took up golf in her 70s, and was an excellent skier in her 80s.

Terry is survived by daughters Liz (Randy Rudnyk) Slobodin of Penticton, Sherri (Ross) Meade of Proserpine, Queensland, grandchildren Jennifer (Paulie) Meade of Palm Beach, Queensland and Nicole Meade of Vernon.  Also surviving are sisters Fran Kruger of Vernon, Eileen Roth of North Vancouver and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, brother Dennis, sister Amy and husband Stan.

The family sincerely thanks the kind staff of Cottage 3-Village by the Station for their exceptional care of Terry during her time with them.

A gathering of friends and family is planned for this May in Vernon -details to be announced at a later date.

From: Roger Knox
Relation: Through swimming

Hi. This message is for Sherri Meade (née Slobodin), I’m hoping it can be passed to her. Hi Sherri. This is Roger Knox from VSS Gard 81. Not sure if you remember me or not. But I just wanted to pass along my condolences on the passing of your mom. She was a very nice lady. She kept me up to date on you and your life in Australia as we worked out at the rec centre pool together for a few years at the same time. I didn’t know she had moved to Penticton but that explains why I didn’t see her again. She always talked fondly of you, Sherri, and she was a great part of our swim group. Always full of laughter! My thoughts are with you and your family, Sherri. Please be well, and take care.

From: Tammy (Wenger) Stein

Condolences to you Liz and your family. May the blessings of memories bring comfort.

From: Debra Wickham
Relation: Aunt

It was with deep sadness that I ready the obituary of Aunt Teresa. The last time I talked to her was shortly after Uncle Stan died, and although the connection got lost, the Slobodin families in Medicine Hat still remember her for the kind, loving person she was. I’m happy she had such a full life! Imagine still sking in your 80’s! My condolences to the cousins on your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
